Obama Declared Warmonger by me. Plus More Republican Lies On Healthcare by the GOP and DEM failures

Afghanistan is a war of choice, a condescending "national re-education camp" that would not be tried with a western power. We have been bombing that country long enough! Not another American life should be lost there! The notion that we can't allow them to plot against us is like declaring war on thought, which is a higher magnitude of delusion than the war on terror.

I also dissect part of last weeks meet the press where more republicans lied about health care and  Democrats continued to worsen things by being deceptively silent on who's going to pay for health care reform. Most of us would pay premiums on the public option. It won't be free to everyone. Just saying that would pull many frightened independents on our side. Obama-care as they call it, is about reasonably priced health care insurance, not free government-run health care systems.

Pardon the background noise. Using a great mic this week, but you can still hear my air conditioning and freezer. Didn't denoise every segment.

I've been personally wondering why Obama has been placing so much emphasis on fighting another war. I thought the point of him becoming president was to discontinue hardline right foreign policy. On this point as sad as I am to say it I think Obama fails when foreign policy is concerned. He's just a nicer Bush in many ways. I'm hoping he will stand up and take a more progressive stance on domestic policy as well since as you have pointed out people seem to think that Government Run Insurance would be free. Socialized Insurance would not be free, it would not decrease the quality of healthcare for anyone, and there would be no death panel. Republicans always bring one of those three lines up and if all else fails they state the old Government can't do anything right argument. Can anyone name one government service that has continued to be offered while being completely ineffective at fulfilling its purpose? Some programs have budget shortfalls but thats caused by Budget cuts as a result of tax cuts. So in essense the real reason why some programs do not provide as much as they could would be primarily due to the fact that half of americans constant ask for tax cuts which create budget cuts.
    Great Podcast Jeff,
I have a request though. Could you do a side special on California and why they are in the predicament they are in. I cannot find any non partisan information on the subject. I honestly believe their budget problems have nothing to do with their liberal ideology.

I'm partisan on California. california should have raised taxes long ago, but they are tainted with the "give me services and a ramped up police state but don't tax me" foolishness of the GOP.

California has what? The world's fifth largest economy? It could operate in the black if it wanted to. The deficit has been chump change to such an economy for years, but you have two sides that won't give and let it grow into a nearly insurmountable problem.

Frankly, I think we should cut the baby in half and raise taxes and cut the jails.

I frankly believe that California is the way it is for the same reason we're breaking ourselves overseas. Right wing influence makes us want to do aggressive things without paying for them. California wants to be tough as hell on crime to an insane level, but California wants low taxes.

The funny thing is, I seem to remember Gray Davis being recalled for a much smaller deficit.

Your question about Dick Army (R - Warmonger) is a most good one. You want to sit beside him and ask him what he was shown that made him change his stance against the war? I don't know the answer, but this is what it might be. Good luck if you can ever get an answer.

The first thing might be, bearing in mind that it's doubtful you'll ever get him to answer, as follows:

    1. He was never really against the war. He was going to resign anyway. He took the stance to satisfy those who opposed the war. After he came out in favor of war because of what he saw, at least some of the anti-war supporters would be moved to his side. After all, he's an intelligent man who knows more than we do.

    2. He was shown a DVD or photographs of him doing something or someone he shouldn't have been doing and given the chance to shut up about it and give them what they wanted in return for DVD or photographs not being released.

    3. He was shown a lucrative offer to be given to him if he would shut up and forget opposition to the war.

    4. He was possibly offered a combination of some or all of the above and whatever happens he will come out on top.

There is no way of knowing the answer, but this could be closer to what happened.

If anyone can get the answer, it would be good to know. As someone who supports peace, it would be interesting to know. If anyone can find out, please let all of us know.

I believe he was truly against the war. Most Republicans actually were against the war. It was a hard sell, even with a Republican Majority. In fact, Bush failed to truly sell it. Saddam had bowed down and offered up thousands of pages in documents, which the Bush Administration read in Arabic in 12 hours, after firing all its gay translators. and literally hours after getting authorization to go into Iraq only if he, secret agent man Bush, discovered something so shocking that we had to go to war right away, before America was destroyed!

He just went in, saying that if he didn't go in now, he would be too hot to go in later.

I remember Dick Armey's very strong words against the war. He called it just as stupid as Obama did. I don't think it was an act.

But I do agree that he was probably blackmailed.
